"The man whose life has gone to the dogs" is the best way to introduce the founder of K9 Pets -
Mr. Tan Teik Poh. He started his business in 1974 by looking after others people's dogs for a fee.

“I started by knocking on doors to get owners permission to be with their dogs after school."

"I would play, walk or exercise their dogs on my bicycle. I even clean their kennels as well as bath them."

Then a friend suggested Mr. Tan go aboard to learn about handling the dogs. And in 1980, off he went to Montana, USA, worked in the top Doberman Kennels, The Marienburg Kennels. He then became the assistant to Mr. Moe Miyagawa showing Doberman in US Show circuit.

During that time, Mr. Tan studied at the Sun Valley Dog Training Academy and graduated as a Master Trainer. Later, Mr. Tan continue his training in Germany at Hundeschule Rasch by Mr. Fritz Rasch.

In 1982, at age 24, Mr. Tan started K9 Training Centre in Penang. And together with Dato Eddy Choong, they started K9 Paradise, a professional kennel at Bukit Gambier, Penang.

After years of involvement in kennel, in 90's Mr. Tan decided to start K9 Pets, a one stop shop specialized for all your K9 needs. K9 Pets at that time also was the importer of Pro Plan Dog Food.

A new chapter for K9 Pets was unfold when in year 2000, K9 Pets moved into current own 3 stories shop-house in Macalister Road, Penang.

From a pet shop, K9 Pets became the sole importer of Diamond Pets Food in Malaysia. Also, K9 Pets is the first company to introduce the pooch Mobile from Australia to Malaysia.

Mr. Tan was also actively involved in dog show. He was an obedience and All Breed Judge. He is also served as a Director of Malaysian Kennel Association for 5 terms and was the secretary of MKA Penang branch for many years. Mr. Tan was also the President of Malaysian Kennel Association in 2004.

In expanding for K9 Pets business, in the year of 2005, Mr Tan’s son in law Mr Ivan Soon get involve and become as a partner of the business and had converted Teik Poh Canine Pets Centre from a sole proprietor company to K9 Pets Sdn. Bhd.

K9 Pets Sdn. Bhd. is now managed by Ivan Soon. Ivan’s interest in dogs started during his secondary school days when his father took him to Teik Poh Canine Pets Centre to buy his first imported Golden Retriever in 1993. While showing and training that dog he shown his natural touch, keen interest and great understanding with dogs. To enhance that talent he was exposed to working with dogs and studies the running of the dogs business, learning the basic and hands-on experience at K9. He was also sent to Australia, Germany, Czech Republic, Thailand and Indonesia to show, work, train and attends International Pet trade Fair.

With Ivan’s youth, commitment, initiative, hard-working attitude as well as his keen observation and business sense, K9 Pets Sdn. Bhd. is set for a bright future and growth.
